Problems in 4D Outline

Postby RobertS » Aug 13, 2013 4:40 pm

Am I the only one that experiences so many crashes with this software? It'll crash on startup. It'll crash on file load. It crashes when I try to do something after changing or looking at settings. I've had as many as 20 crashes in one day and it won't save my settings either. When I load it back up, with the file I was working on, the setting are back to factory defaults.

Are you using Windows 8? If so, there are two things you need to do:
Run the program as Administrator, and increase your Windows Memory assignment.

Windows 7 or 8 Install instructions are here:

Adjusting virtual memory size is here:
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-hk/windows-8/change-the-size-of-virtual-memory

I increased my RAM to 3x the size of the memory cards, and now everything works fine.

No, none of that is working.

I run Win7 with 4G ram.
I've tried it as admin with 12G virt mem. It's not working. Anytime I change the settings, the very next action (change to outline, open recent file, etc) causes a crash and Outline 4D still doesn't retain any changes to the options/settings.

I wish I could offer a solution that worked.

When I have encountered problems and sent a report to Write Bros. through the official channel, they have always responded within the course of a business day.

The only problems I know of are when running Outline 4D on a 64-bit operating system, but usually running as administrator solves that problem. When the program crashes, does it give you a chance to generate or save a log file of the crash?

Ken, as a heads up, I got a Windows 8 laptop and Outline 4D works without fail on it.

I still don't know why it won't work right on my desktop, but at least I do have a computer it will work on.

Good to hear. Every machine has its own quirks and possible set of problems. It's possible there is some system problem that has to do with permissions that is affecting the program on the other computer.
