Excellent Example of Be-er vs. Do-er

Postby Geoff1975 » Sep 24, 2012 10:37 pm

I just finished watching the climax of "Crimson Tide". The involving subjective through line revolves around the captain and executive officer clenched in debate. I would say the exec is quite an active Be-er because, in addition to patting the men for jobs well-done during the story, there are two moments of appealing to men's nature in order to persuade them. Once, he reminds a man of Star Trek, getting him to remember scenes similar to the situation they were facing. In that way, he persuades the man to keep trying to re-establish radio communications. In another instance, when someone was caught fighting over a comic book preference, he jokes about the comic book in sympathy with the man to ease his discomfort. On the other hand, as the two await the climactic full message, the captain demonstrates being a Do-er when he says about horses, "Stick a cattle prod up their {you know what} and you can get a horse to deal a deck of cards. Simple voltage." Interestingly, the executive officer points out those certain horses are white, but born black... a recognition of how a horse can change what he is.
