Can U explain what production stands for?
Can U explain what production stands for?
Hi-- I am very new and have a natural curiousity for what production is. Would love to get some advice or some wisdom onto what it stands for and what to look for in a movie. Any great resources or links you can supply? Jena

Re: Can U explain what production stands for?
Hey Jena --
Production refers to the process of putting a script into the filmmaking process. This process includes:
Pre-production -- the stuff that happens in preparation for shooting the film (e.g. storyboards, hiring, location scouting, etc.)
Production -- Actually making the movie from the script (e.g. camera, directing, acting, transportation, etc.)
Post Production -- Putting all the pieces together into the finished work for distribution (e.g. editing, sound effects, special effects, etc.)
These are WAY simplified descriptions of complex processes.
As far as scripts go, there are also "production" related elements in a script. Once the script has been OK'd, the script is broken down, typically by a production assistant or production manager. Scenes are assigned numbers, which cannot be changed without permission. There are some great books on the subject. Take a look on Amazon.com or Google and you'll find out a lot more about the process.
