Who do I submit my screenplay to?

I am an aspiring screenwriter, I live in Illinois with my wife and son which obviously makes this process more difficult than it already is. BUT that being said:

who do I submit my screenplay to? honestly, so far my plan is to call who I want to submit my screenplay to ahead of time, chat with someone about it for about three minutes and see if they are interested. I have been looking up a few production companies and am about to call them. The reason I am not JUST submitting it to anyone and everyone is because I want them to know my whole idea about the movie and the possible sequals and prequals. My screenplay still needs to be revised a couple more times, but how am I going about this wrong so far?

thank you in advance for your help.

Hello

Your question called to mind a recent post on John August's website:

Hope this helps. Incidentally, I recommend browsing around the website, particularly the 'Q and A' posts. There's a lot of good information to be had. I specifically remember another reader asking him about the practicalities of kicking off a screenwriting career from outside LA. The post shouldn't be too hard to find.

Regards,

EDIT: I found the other post I mentioned. Actually, there are two on the same subject:

Probably not the most encouraging reading for someone who is settled outside of LA.
