Choose one of your short stories. You already have a beginning and end and a subconscious idea about your characters. Expand that.

Brokeback Mountain was an expansion of a short story written by Annie Proulx.

The same technique applies.

The expansion follows a certain pattern ( see http://www.clickok.co.uk/index4.html )

The formatting follows a certain pattern (see http://www.scriptologist.com/Magazine/F ... tting.html )

Then, certain processes will more likely lead to success - for example, stick to one story until it it finished (don't keep restarting new screenplays everytime you have an idea or you'll just end up with a stack of unfinished ones etc); give yourself a time limit, which will help concentration and force out ideas etc.

Good Luck.

Don't restrict yourself to a particular genre, especially if nobody has dictated the theme for the festival. Let your ideas flow freely, and then create a mindmap that includes your characters, themes, etc. Don't put too much pressure on yourself. Ideas tend to come when you are relaxed ( due to frequency of brain waves ). Also, make sure to adhere to the format of screenplays. Best of luck!

Hi :D

When I want to start to write a screenplay, I would start with a Blank document. Create a List out of it. Break it down into "ACTS".

For example:
Act ONE (p1-25)
Act TWO (p25-55)
Act THREE (p55-85)
Act FOUR (p85-110)

Also in your first 10 pages you should have introduced all your Characters.

Also make sure that your Opening Image makes a "Good First Impression"

Make the Hero of your script likable by the Audience and the Bad guy hated. Make the Audience connect with your hero.

A good resource I found was the book "Save The Cat!", by Blake Snyder
