Comic books have variant covers. If you have two of the same comic books they'll be the same comic book inside but each will have a different cover. Additionally, there are alternative stories too-stories based on characters in primary story, but they become the Main Character in a series of comic books.
Why is this not being done in film? With all the reboots of old films and extrapolations from games ('Battleship'), how long before there are new films based on characters from old films? An exploration of those characters, ya' know? ie: A series of films in which Han Solo is the MC?
Or has that been done and I'm just not aware.
If comic books have variant covers, why not a film itself?

It's too expensive to do with a film.

I understand. But seeing how we're in the middle of "Revival Madness", at SOME point we're going to either have to generate a boatload of new content (like what's happening with docs) that has the same success as the past and spawns a massive following, or we're going to have to explore variants and spin-offs. We already do spin offs:
'Lavern and Shirley' was spin-off of 'Happy Day's'.
<google it> Oh good heavens, there's a boat-load of spin offs. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_television_spin-offs
The Bionic Woman from 6 Million Dollar Man.
Mork & Mindy.
Differen't Strokes led to the Facts of Life by following the Housekeeper.
At some point in time we're going to have to have the same film from a different POV. 'Show the building blowing up from a different angle, pick and choose to which film ya' wanna go (with 2 MC's, you can either go see the film the Female MC is in or the film the Male MC is in). We lost a lot from not following Han Solo in Star Wars. What's the film done in the dark with green lighting, the campers, the spooky one? Film the same film from the POV of one of the other campers. <shrug> Make it...long lost footage. <shrug>
I dunno. 'Different theme's'd pop up too.
I know I'D watch the Original 'Poseidon Adventure' again from the POV of that group of passengers they met up with who was going the wrong way. I wonder what grisly ending happened to them. Ewwww-scaaary! Plus it'd be fun to watch AFTER having seen the first/main one, seeing's how we know they're doooomed. <muah ha ha ha haaaa> Ya' know?
Variants. Variations of the same film. Anyway, entertaining for me to think about.

You know, the more I think about it the more I'm sticking with my thought. I think audiences will want to see variations of the same film-just from different perspectives. ie: I'd like to see a film about that group of ppl in the 'Poseidon Adventure' who were going the other direction in the hallway. What ever happened to them? I think there's some exciting possibilities to explore.

It happens a lot in the literary world. Look to the panoply of Star Wars and Star Trek spinoffs.
The Film equivalent of the comic book cover variants are the movie posters.
