Impact Character as Protagonist

Hi Chris,

on the topic of a character other than the MC being the protagonist (e.g. To Kill a Mockingbird): I'm wondering if there has been any discussion here -- or if you could point me at an example of a story where this occurs -- of the impact character as Protagonist?

(By the way, I DID search the forum here for it, but got the response that "impact" and "protagonist" were "too common" and were excluded from my search!)

Thanks,

Jeff

Here are some examples:

- Road to Perdition: Father (Tom Hanks) is the IC protagonist. Son is MC.

- Sherlock Holmes novels, generally: Holmes is the protagonist/IC. Watson is the MC.

- The Terminator: Kyle Reese, IC protagonist. Sarah Connor is the MC.

- The Great Gatsby: Gatsby is the protagonist IC. The writer Nick Carraway is the MC.

- All About Eve: Though these are complex characters, Eve Harrington is the IC/Pursue character. Margo Channing is the MC.

These are just a few that come to mind.
