If the Protagonist is separate from the MC, who does the story Outcome of Success or Failure, and the judgement relate to?

I am having trouble figuring out how close or distant the MC's throughline is to the Outcome.

Story Outcome is related to the Protagonist since the protagonist is concerned with achieving the Story Goal.

Story Judgment is related to the Main Character and is a judgment of whether or not the MC resolved his personal issue (Good) or is left angst-ridden (Bad).

In stories where the Main Character is also the Protagonist, then Outcome and Judgment concern the same player but the separate contexts are still valid: Protagonist --> Story Outcome; Main Character --> Story Judgment.

Therefore if I have a Steadfast MC and the judgement is good, then it would appear that the author is favoring the steadfastness as the correct stance to hold.

However, I imagine there would be emotional change for the MC... I guess what happens is that the 'way to act' of the MC is the thing that the MC is steadfast about... or something like that.

A Steafast Main Character grows in his resolve. Since he is steadfast, it is the changing environment (including the people who populate it) against which he must hold out. A Judgment of Good indicates he is at peace at the end of the story solely with regards to the personal issue with which the story explored. It is quite possible that the MC has other issues than that of the MC Problem (and Solution, Symptom, and Response), but they are not germain to the Story Judgment.
