When will next update of Dramatica Pro be available?
Re: When will next update of Dramatica Pro be available?
I get occasional emails from this topic and it's usually some poor soul like myself wondering whatever happened to this software. I've now unsubscribed from this topic and just hope Dramatica will email all existing customers who can no longer use their software (have been unable to since Lion) if and when they produce something. goodbye!

Hi Chris,
I upgraded to Dramatica Story Expert, and it's fantastic . . . well worth the wait! I first downloaded Pro in 2002. It's not often the Mac version comes out first, so thanks for that!

Will the new version still be able to read old Dramatica files? And when will the PC version be out?
By the way: I checked out the screen shots, and when I saw the one of the "Assign Characteristics " page I couldn't help but wonder what a "metholodology" is. Is that Dramatica lingo?

Yes, it can read (and write) old Dramatica files. We hope to have the PC version out in Spring 2013.
Our use of the term Methodology refers to HOW characters go about solving problems, as opposed to Motivation, which describes what drives character to solve problems. This use is unique to Dramatica, but is in all the previous versions (and even in the book).

Wow, that's late. Why the immense gap?

I know, but the issue here that is is written as "Metholodology", not "Methodology". I hope this has been fixed in the final release.

Well, it's quite a sloppy error, especially since they put it in a screenshot.
I am also curious about the "Generate scenes" command, but I can't find anything about it in the manual. What is that all about?

Wow. I didn't even catch that in your catch of it. No, it made it into the release, but it will be corrected shortly. THANKS!
Re: When will next update of Dramatica Pro be available?
Chris,
Congratulations on this release! The program looks amazing just from the screenshots. And the GISTS feature is brilliant. Can't wait for the windows version, I'm (almost) considering swtiching to Mac.

Re: When will next update of Dramatica Pro be available?
Hi Chris
I'm a Windows user and am loving the idea of gists in the new Dramatica. I think it will prove to be very useful in learning the program. However, Spring 2013 is a long wait in order to get a chance to see/use them .
Is there any chance of release gists as a separate mini application or even some sort of static document (pdf, csv, text)?
This way us mere windows users can start using them straight away. I wouldn't mind paying twice over - once for PC version of the list of gists and another for the full application. Am just eager to start using them as I think it will help me learn the dramatica theory much better.
Thanks
Iqbal

Re: When will next update of Dramatica Pro be available?
The way gists are integrated into the software for use and display, I don't know how practical a list of 12,000 + gists would be, other than as a REALLY long and odd thesaurus list.
Re: When will next update of Dramatica Pro be available?
Thanks to the reply. I often find I am stuck on the terminology when trying to look for (as an example) "preconception as a problem" for a story.
Having some examples (in this case gists), would help understand:
1) what the term means, by reading some examples
2) whether the description I have picked really is a preconception
Not sure if I'm able to effectively communicate my thoughts But I would defintely find such a thesaurus useful!

Re: When will next update of Dramatica Pro be available?
I'll check into what we may do to make it available.
Re: When will next update of Dramatica Pro be available?
Wow. Fantastic! Thanks so much. I look forward to it
Re: When will next update of Dramatica Pro be available?
Finally an update...but on what areas...only gists or more?
I have followed and used Dramatica Pro for ten years or more and was looking forward to number 5. Not using it for a while I came back to these forums and discovered the story expert for mac. Tried it on my virtual mac and there are neat things.
The Gist feature is a very nice feature. I mean, a lot of the questions in this forum is about interpreting the terms in dramatica so it's a natural addition and a good one. But I want to suggest 1 thing. Make dramatica online. People can choose to go online if they want when they use the software. And if they e.g. use the theme browser, contributions from users can show up on the word/topic they are contemplating. It could use a rating system to filter out trash, or the creators themselves could use a "approved" sign...
In this way we could build a strong catalouge of examples and a community.

Hi Chris
Is there any news on making the gist list available separately?

I love the Gists feature in Dramatica Story Expert! I think it extends Dramatica’s intelligibility and makes Dramatica more practically useful than ever before. Its fantastic to see how much you can customize the software’s guidance and reports with Gists. I have two suggestions for updates to Gists to make them, I think, virtually perfect:
1). Please apply the ability to select Gists to the counterpoint of the thematic argument of each throughline. Right now we can only select Gists for the issue. The counterpoint shows up in several Dramatica reports and it would be great to have this consistency in the Gists feature.
2). Please, please allow for a way to select or edit Gists for the plot sequence report. It is partially there now. It would be wonderful to be able to make more use of this valuable report. Sections that currently read :
“ Act two concentrates on ‘gathering information or experience’ (Gathering Information) and is explored in terms of Openness, Delay, Choice and Preconception”
Could read, for example:
“Act two concentrates on 'Learning about Political Candidates' (Gathering Information) and is explored in terms of Exploring One’s Openness, Delaying Getting Married, Being The People’s Choice and Having Preconceptions About Something.”
Hopefully these could be implemented in a future update, possibly the forthcoming Windows version of Dramatica Story Expert?

When will next update of Dramatica Pro be available?
Been studying Dramatica on-and-off for past few years, and dabbled with the Dramatica Demo...finally saved enough dimes to buy Dramatica Pro.
I wish Dramatica Story Expert for Windows were available, as they're both priced the same amount during this sale.
I've been studying the samples included with the program. Suggestions on how to quickly learn how to use this program appreciated. (I had read Dramatica for Screenwriters a few times.)
BTW, Spring is almost here.
Any updates on when Dramatica Story Expert for Windows will be available?

We're working diligently on DSE for Windows but we don't have an E.T.A. yet. We'll announce when we're looking for beta testers.
Cheers.
Cheers.
