Permissions and links

Postby Lighthope » Jun 13, 2008 5:40 pm

Apparently, I don't have permission to read the Announcements forum. Strange...

Also, I don't find a link to this forum on the main Screenplay website. Might it not be a good idea to have a link there?

Can you read them now? In case you haven't noticed, we have had a big problem with SPAM. We're trying to find the right settings to make this forum useable, but less SPAMable. I don't think we've found the right settings yet.

Good idea about the Screenplay.com link. Thanks!

hi Chris,

i was just thinking; if the Dramatica peeps could enjoy some support from the WGA ( in terms of manpower or funding... somehow?), the SPAM problem might be more adequately addressed.

i mean, this forum is catered to a niche group of users - US! This is our playground. Not some place for people to hawk their wares (unless they're Dramatica users themselves who have actually written a story of some sort.)

You guys are card-carrying members of the WGA, i reckon? I'm not American, btw. 8)

I've had a few casual websites with forums in the past and one workaround that would be a temporary solution is give someone you trust power to ban posters and remove posts. I'm not sure how widespread the community is here, but the more people you trust who can help prune the spam, the better.

You want people who stop by every day, who will only ban spam and not ban based on any personal agenda, and who care about the community.

Of course, as I said, this is only a temporary solution. Spambots will always outpost even the most OCD of forum admins.

As I recall, one really great website creator actually just banned any profile trying to be created from a china ISP, since China is the current epicenter of the Spam world. But I don't have any insight to offer beyond that.

As for what we users can do... If you are stop by this site and check out the forums, post. It could be disagreement, agreement, expansion on previous ideas, a funny thing happened on the way to the pitch meeting, etc. The more living and breathing this forum is, the better.
