All the spammers

Postby UTAtheatreguy » Jan 24, 2011 1:53 pm

Yeah. I don't know if it's two guys, a theory expert and a technical guy, who run this forum all on their lonesome...but have you all thought about making it harder to sign up? There are a lot of spambots.

It may come to that. I have to clean up the spammers daily, and still that doesn't seem to be enough.

I'll look into making the process less automated.

I think you should definitely do that. When I signed up, I had to email an admin because it wasn't a smooth process for me. I'm not knocking you and whoever else runs the site. I'm just saying all the spammers really doesn't make the site look very good. Especially when it's more likely than not that the reply to a post is a spammer rather than a member.

Starting today, we are going to use real people to process the requests to join this forum. We should see a LOT fewer spammers.

ALSO, we're preventing live links in the posts. Please feel free to include urls to useful pages, but understand that others will have to copy and paste the urls into their browswers instead of just clicking on he link. We are dinog this to help cut down spammer interest in the sit.

Cheers,
