IS THERE A RECENT UPDATE?

Postby scriptstuff » Feb 18, 2016 11:13 am

A poster on Reddit said he got an email about an update to MMSW last week and when he opened the program it was ready to download. I don't have an email and don't know how to check for updates. Any info?

There was a small update for Macs. (I can't find the e-mail now.)

It also said they are working on a new version for Windows but have no ETA.

For Mac, yes...with caveats. For Windows, not yet though we are working on a major revision of the software (still no ETA).

Here is the content of an update correction notice we sent out on Thursday, Feb 11, 2016:

-----------
Despite eight months+ of active beta testing, there appears to be one major bug that got through our testing cycle that effects a small percentage of users. It is serious enough for us to throttle back the update release, so we have disabled the CHECK FOR UPDATE notice for Mac version 6.2.1 and will treat is as a pre-release version. Should you wish to update to 6.2.1 to take advantage of its new features, you may download it from the link below.

THE SCREENWRITER 6.2.1 BUG
For a few users, v6.2.1 crashes on launch. If this happens to you, please let our tech folks know, move the 6.2.1 app into the trash, and download and reinstall the previous version (6.0.10) from here:

http://support.screenplay.com/downloads/MMScreenwriter/updates/mac/MMSW6_MAC_Update.php

We are, of course, presently working on a solution to this bug and will send a follow up notification of the bug fix.

DRAMATICA STORY EXPERT SIDE EFFECT
A secondary problem may occur as a side effect of installing Screenwriter 6.2.1. Installing Screenwriter 6.2.1 may disable Dramatica Story Expert (v5.0.6) for those of you that have both programs. Fortunately, the fix is easy. Download and install the pre-release version of Dramatica Story Expert v5.2.0 from the support site and Dramatica SE will run again without a hitch. Further installations (or un-installations) of Screenwriter should not negatively effect Dramatica SE.

HERE IS BRIEF LIST OF THE NEW FEATURES IN MAC SCREENWRITER v6.2.1:
New Spell Checker!
This release includes an entirely new spell checker, based on the Apple OS X spell checking system. This feature works with Apple's spelling dictionaries.

New Integrated Thesaurus / Synonyms.
There is a new Synonym context menu popup that auto-senses casing style and allows for multi-word synonym lookup, e,g, “fossil fuel” and “air raid”.

Final Draft Import
This version introduces a new, high-quality Final Draft Import that lets you import Final Draft 8 and 9 .fdx files into Movie Magic Screenwriter. Most of your Final Draft formatting will be preserved.

Screenwriter XML file format (.mmx)
You now have the option to save your documents in one of two formats: Screenwriter 6.0's current file format (.mmsw) or the new XML file format (.mmx extension). There are a few reasons why you might wish to choose the .mmx file format over the older .mmsw:

-- .mmx supports some new features, such as remembering Ignored words in the new spell checker on a document-by-document basis.

-- .mmx supports some features when importing from Final Draft, and will do a better job of exporting to Final Draft when that feature becomes available.
-- Some third-party apps support importing / exporting the .mmx file format.

-- NOTE: The .mmx file format is not presently compatible with the Windows version of Movie Magic Screenwriter.

Revamped iPartner™
iPartner ran into problems in Apple's release of OS X 10.9 (Mavericks), 10.10 (Yosemite), and 10.11 (El Capitan) because Apple removed older Internet transport protocols that iPartner required. iPartner has now been revamped to support the newer Internet communication protocols.

Various Bug Fixes / Other changes

So, you may update to the free update by using the links above. If you happen to be one of the few who have the launch problem, you may trash that version and reinstall your previous version without any problems.

We are actively working on a fix for those few who have the launch problem with 6.2.1.
