The Legacy Glitch

Postby scriptstuff » Jan 26, 2016 12:02 pm

It's common and hasn't been fatal for me because screenwriter saves my work and I can pull up a backup version, but the last time, I decided to copy the information and see if there's some easy fix because I had to CTRL/ALT/DEL to shut it down. Usually it just closes by itself. But this time it went on some sort of loop and the error message kept popping up:

Access violation at address 00804B46 in module 'screenwriter.exe'. Read of address 63656A72.

And I copied this from the more information link:

What I thought was interesting is, it says under Operating System Microsoft Windows Vista. I have Windows 7. Being pretty effin' dumb about computers and programs, no idea if it matters. But I can find folders and make changes if someone gives me specific directions.

Thanks for any help.

The way the crash gets triggered the most frequently is having one or more long paragraphs (usually over a page in length). This is more common in stage plays where there can be monologues that go on for a while. Please break up any long paragraphs with something like Action and see if the program runs better. You can also try and set the program to break Action and Dialogue *only* at sentences ends (Format > Element Styles > Page Breaks).

Another trigger is having blank elements in the document. Click on Tools > Run SmartCheck and have the program remove any blank elements it finds. You can also copy and paste your entire document into a new blank document of the same type, i.e., Screenplay, Novel, Stage Play, etc. which may help the problem.

Thanks, Ken. Only write features, so no long dialogue. I'll try running smart check more often, I usually only do it between drafts. There's a rumor going around that an update has come out. True? How do I get it?
