Re: Flipping roles
Yes. That is why most stories have complex characters instead of archetypes. Complex character can comprise many unexpected combinations of character functions.

Re: Can multiple characters fulfill 1 role.
Short answer, "Yes." A group can be a character -- the "Empire" in Star Wars has all sorts of players that make up that group and work as one to stop the Rebels. You can also have a series of character play the role of a single character function. The extreme version of this are ...

Re: Student/noob/young people outreach/intro/instruction?
The Dramatica Users Group is a great way to introduce many of the Dramatica concepts in a practical story analysis environment. Apart from that, I don't think we've got something geared toward particular groups -- except when those groups have contacted us for us to provide such a meeting. We've don...

Re: The Batmobile is a Character.
I don't think the bat mobile is a character in most incarnations of the Batman story. Christine is a good example of a character. The same goes for "My Mother The Car" and "Knight Rider."

If you think of cartoons, the idea of non-humans being characters seems obvious.

Strange. Did you try looking at it in both the StoryGuide topic list AND the Scene Creation topic list? If it is still missing, I suggest redownloading and reinstalling the software from our support site:

To the right of the navigation buttons at the bottom of the window are the scene function buttons:
It is in Scene List topic of both the Storyweaving section of the StoryGuide, and the Scene Creation topic list.

Re: How to delete a scene in WDK 4.0 in the "Query System"?
In the Scene Creation topic list, go to the Scene List topic -- this is the topic that lists ALL of the scenes in order. Click on the scene you wish to remove to select it, and click on the DELETE button at the bottom of the window (below the list of scenes). The scenes following the deleted scene r...

Re: Subplot Question
Those don't sound like subplots. They sound likes different scenes. A subplot has a different goal from the main story. In your example, you have not identified a main story, which you have to have before you can have a substory/subplot. The alternative is that you have parallel running stories that...

Re: Flipping roles
Yes, it could be confusing. HOWEVER, what you might want to do is to create complex characters where your players have elements of guardians and protagonists. For example, you may have the "guardian" character also represent Proaction, a typical Protagonist trait. Your "protagonist&qu...

Re: Creating New Scene in Same Location
Yes, that is the correct method, particularly for production scripts. However, there are some alternatives used, especially if you're cutting back and forth between two locations, but those are not as generally accepted as putting in a scene heading at each jump in time or space. There is no need fo...

We are working on the long term solutions for all the various bugs and annoyances that are part of a complete reworking of Screenwriter (it's gotten so complex internally that fixing one thing breaks three others). No, there is no E.T.A., but a team of our engineers are actively working on the new v...

The patterns that exist in the PSR are applicable to the PSR only and do not imply what is happening "above" or "below" the Types and Variations, so there isn't any way to manually predict the Class and Element level interactions except by following your writer's instincts. There...
