Flipping roles

Would it be confusing to have character flip roles. Not early or mid story, but toward the end. Say the guardian becomes the protagonist when he gains his confidence and the protagonist becomes the guardian to support the new protagonist (since this was the intent, but he wasn't up to snuff at the t...

Re: Giving the MC a musical talent

Ok, I'll ponder that. The talent has an arc, to a previous time, that explains why this influenced the influence character.

Giving the MC a musical talent

As currently written, my MC is an excellent guitarist from 20 years earlier, but his aspirations were stomped out. A main reason the catalyst character chooses him is because of his musical talent. The story is really not about music, but rather, it creates a connection between him and the catalyst ...

Re: Just Starting Out

You may also want to invest in 1-2 books on story craft. So far, Truby's "Anatomy of Story" is proving to be engaging and informative. I also have McKee's "Story: Style, Structure, Substance and the Principles of Screenwriting." There is the "Dramatica Theory of Story,"...

Re: As Good As Star Wars

I think "Avatar" went a long way toward matching the technological leap forward that Star Wars did. Where it fell short was in the story, a thinly disguised version of John Smith and Pocahontas. Where the 1970's, particularly the late 1970's, were about celebrating life (Disco was king), ...

Re: Problems in 4D Outline

Ken, as a heads up, I got a Windows 8 laptop and Outline 4D works without fail on it.

I still don't know why it won't work right on my desktop, but at least I do have a computer it will work on.

Intercutting a prelude scene with credits

In this scene, the NASA space craft Sagan attempts to establish orbit around Jupiter and collides with something. I want the scene to be short, no more than say 1-1.5 minutes, intercut with credits, or perhaps have credits overlayed with it. I'm not sure. But one thing I'm sure about is that switchi...

Re: Problems in 4D Outline

No, none of that is working.

I run Win7 with 4G ram.
I've tried it as admin with 12G virt mem. It's not working. Anytime I change the settings, the very next action (change to outline, open recent file, etc) causes a crash and Outline 4D still doesn't retain any changes to the options/settings.

Problems in 4D Outline

Am I the only one that experiences so many crashes with this software? It'll crash on startup. It'll crash on file load. It crashes when I try to do something after changing or looking at settings. I've had as many as 20 crashes in one day and it won't save my settings either. When I load it back up...
