Adaptation for Screenplays

Looking for some feedback on a project I’m considering. I initially wanted to adapt a short story into a screenplay. The original story was written in the 1800’s. Pretty simple project. However, I found that several key elements of the original work would make for a poor screenplay (although the ove...

Linear Screenplay?

Even when writing a screenplay about historical events, I think it’s expected that some theatrical / artistic elements may be fictional or “exaggerated”. Basically, they help keep the story entertaining while also being true to the telling. Afterall, unless there's an eyewitness of the event, no one...

Re: Formatting Question

I see what you're saying. To be honest, I'm not sure. I don't write animated films. But, check out Internet Movie Script Database (IMSDB). Just do a Goggle search. Once there, you can view several scripts related to your genre. They're all free to download and view. A wealth of information. Start re...

Day or Night?

Film only registers "Night" and "Day", which makes sense when you think about it. On camera, Sunset can't be distinguished from Sunrise. Only the sound effect of a rooster would give any inclination. But I'm finding it an issue when parts of story unfold between the wee hours of ...

Voice Over Help (V.O.)

In the first few pages of my script, I plan to have a character speak as "V.O.". It won't be the main principle, but certainly a notable character from the story. The V.O. will basically be narration, setting the tone with a few, simple statements laced into the opening scenes. Here's my q...

A FLASHBACK TO TELL MY STORY?

Some guidance please...Anyone know of other screenplays that use the same type of storyline as "Forrest Gump"? I'm drawing a blank.. By same "type", I mean a story that begins in the past (which is my starting point, or "current day") and transitions to another point fu...

Re: Formatting Question

Keep in mind, with reagard to location, there really is only two accepted variants; "EXT" (exterior) or "INT" (interior). I've never seen "SKETCH" work for a screenplay. Especially for a Spec Script. Outer Space is an "EXT" location. Inside a Space Craft woul...

CHARACTER INTRO

Hey All, Introducing several main characters during a wedding scene. To spread out the amount of CAPS and description in my sequences, I was thinking of introducing them only prior to thier resepective dialogs. So, I was thinking of something like this. Your thoughts... An extravegant Roman wedding ...
