Sequences

I've just got the Power Structure program and I'm trying to structure my story. I've heard in a novel you use chapters, where in a play or movie script you use sequences. I'm writing a novel and want to get my theme in there. Do I need to write sequences or chapters?

Re: Sub-Plots

Shakespeare does it in Macbeth. It's hard though, because you end up with a grisly tale and you get absorbed in the MC point of view, kind of like doing Red Dragon from Lecters point of view. It's bad enough that it's from the point of view of the messed up profiler; even worse from the villain's po...

4 Act versus 3 Act

I've put together the throughlines of my story into 4 Acts, which seems logical with the Dramatica system. Problem is, I've always written in the 3 Act structure, had it nailed into my plotting habits. I like the 3 Act structure. Does anyone have a suggestion on how to convert the neat 4 Act structu...

Re: manipulation

Sorry, I didn't make it clear. It's the Main Character who's manipulation and develops the plan. Impact character is Physics. The Main Character develops a plan in Act 1that people in the church should use their professions, such as doctors, nurses, businessmen, etc, to help the less fortunate in th...

dialogue

I ran across a dialogue program for $9.95 the other day that helps you include all the rules of dialogue in your manuscript, but I went back to buy it and can't find it. It's not Great Dialogue. Anyone know what or where it is?

manipulation

I have a character who's impact character is constantly pushing for him to appeal to the supernatural to solve his personal dilemma. In Act 1 he develops a plan to get everyone in his church to work together to help those less fortunate. He figures doctors, businessmen, etc, can donate their experti...

Re: Genres

So it's not enough to keep genre switches smooth within each throughline, but genre switches should be smooth in the final work as a whole? Sorry to keep the subject going; this is my final question on genre.

Re: Genres

So we write the different genre types in the storyform and arrange them in proper order (avoiding a harsh transition) in the final storyweaving process?

Genres

When choosing where to change on a certain throughline from information to drama to comedy and back, etc, how can you avoid skipping past one while getting to the other if you set the sequence in storyforming but change the sequence during storyweaving? It seems if you set the sequence during storyf...

comedy

I have a hard time connecting Ability to comedy. When I think of it, all I can imagine is the Comedia de l'arte, stock characters in Italian comedy like Pulcinella (a groucho marx character type--or Hawkye Pierce in Mash), etc. There is some comedy, like with the guy who can eat tons of food and not...
