Re: Order of MC & IC Signposts
I don't see anything wrong with starting the IC throughline before the MC throughline, but I can't offhand think of any stories that use the ambiguity between the IC and the MC as a source of mystery or tension. There are, of course, many stories (e.g., The Sixth Sense) where story points or element...

Re: Playing a Role
Farnsworth, if you look closely at all the other possibilities for the Consequence of failure to Do, I think you'll agree that none of them fit. Under the Dramatica rules, the Goal has to be dynamically opposed to the Consequence from the "genre" perspective, but of the same nature from a ...

Methodology archetypal characters
Melanie put together at least a preliminary list of archetypal characters in the Methodology quad at http://storymind.com/dramatica/lost_theory_book/lost_method_archetypes.htm , and her descriptions of at least the "Action Methodology" characters (Assertive, Responsive, Preservative, and P...

Re: The new Star Trek movie
Maybe he wouldn't admit it. Lots of writers don't like to admit they follow a particular theory. Has anyone noticed how the thematics of Lost tend to follow certain Dramatica quads? For example, the whole last season spent a great deal of time dealing with Fate-Prediction-Interdiction-Destiny. Every...

Re: IC Growth?
I don't quite understand how that follows, though, because there doesn't seem to be any reason why an MC Steadfast Start character could not be in the same story as an IC Change Start character. The MC could be waiting for something to begin, while the IC has a hole in his heart. The reason I think ...

IC Growth?
Is there any benefit to thinking about "IC Growth", and its relation to MC Growth? The documentation says that IC Resolve and IC Approach are the opposite of MC Resolve and MC Approach, and I think I understand the theoretical reasons for both of those rules. But MC Start implies both (1) ...

Re: Mechanism for MC and IC Resolve
Thanks. Is this new theory? I don't remember reading anything about the Change character jumping to the Steadfast character's Domain. But it makes a lot of sense to me that a Do-er might, for dramatic impact, become a Be-er or vice versa. Maybe this is what happened in A Clockwork Orange . At the be...

Re: MC Problem of "PURSUIT"
That sounds to me like the MC's real Problem is Avoidance. He may be pursued by his guilt or other internal things, but his real drive is to avoid that guilt. The Solution to his Problem would be to Pursue the guilt. I'm not sure it makes sense the other way around: if Pursuit were his problem, then...

Help interpreting "four throughlines themes" report
I need help interpreting a "Four Throughlines Themes" report that says: However, only if MC continues to believe that his own deficiency of Inertia is not really causing all the problems but is just the work he must do to resolve the problems will he be able to set things right. The questi...

Mechanism for MC and IC Resolve
I'm just a little confused about the mechanism for the MC an IC Resolve. I understand that, at the very least, Resolve plays out at the character level. For example, in the Dramatica Dictionary definition of "Problem," it says that MC Resolve concerns whether or not, at the "leap of f...

Re: Mental Sex -- Real Life Example(s)
A few months ago, I saw a separate article suggesting that Obama is the first major "woman" candidate--the same way Bill Clinton was called the first major "black" candidate. Really funny, but it's a good way to make sense of their different styles. So if the Democrats win, we wi...
