Re: What does a Doer do when they are stuck?

You are a treat!

And thank God (or someone like him) that I chose a decision driven story!

At the moment, the MC is being held in one location against their will...

What does a Doer do when they are stuck?

Hi, Well into the beginning of my novel (like chap 4 of 53) I have a question: What does a doer do when things aren't going their way? Examples would be helpful. And what would a doer do when they spit the dummy about something? I sort of have the idea that they would continue doing ineffectually......

Re: Destiny and Fate

I see -- the Destiny of the people at the Palace is that they have to give up their dream of living their ideal life and their fate would be that they are harrassed by the Drug Lord, manipulated by the clone Arnold, and beset by natural disasters like lightening and earthquakes... Thank you for taki...

Re: Destiny and Fate

More pondering...

I have a character in the OS who is anorexic

When I working through how the thematic issue of Destiny affects him...

I might come up with:

His destiny is loss of wellbeing

His fate would be that he might die

Destiny and Fate

After thinking I understood this... I'm thinking again! I need illustrations... please, thank you :) Destiny is the OS Issue and I wrote this: The people at The Palace believe that as one the 'Chosen', they have rights to a privileged life. But they are Sheep for the circling Wolves (Drug Lord, Arno...

Re: Plot Progression for the M/I Throughline

The change by the IC is not connected to the OS directly

I recall in my earlier reading that if the IC changes and the MC is steadfast, there is a worldwide impact.

Plot Progression for the M/I Throughline

The M/I Throughline starts with Memories and end with Contemplation. I can understand how the relationship between MC and IC could be marred by memories. I could imagine how they could at loggerheads because the innermost desire of one could be different to the other. I can see how their frustration...

Re: MC Problem/Solution/Symptom/Response

Thanks... that's awesome.

I'll possibly have a couple more questions but at some point in a week or so that will be it. I'll be offline with the novel.

Re: MC Problem/Solution/Symptom/Response

More Musing: This is the Definition of Perception: Perception is a point of view on reality. In truth, we cannot truly get beyond perception in our understanding of our world. A character that represents Perception is more concerned with the way things seem than what they are. Therefore he can be ca...

MC Problem/Solution/Symptom/Response

I'm looking, just before I launch into full-bolt writing, to see that I've got my thinking as straight as I can. Any help would be appreciated. In my StoryForm, the MC Throughline is Activity and the OS Throughline is Situation The MC Problem is Actuality, the Solution is Perception, the symptom is ...

Re: Story Outcome and Judgement

Therefore if I have a Steadfast MC and the judgement is good, then it would appear that the author is favoring the steadfastness as the correct stance to hold. However, I imagine there would be emotional change for the MC... I guess what happens is that the 'way to act' of the MC is the thing that t...

Story Outcome and Judgement

If the Protagonist is separate from the MC, who does the story Outcome of Success or Failure, and the judgement relate to?

I am having trouble figuring out how close or distant the MC's throughline is to the Outcome.

Re: OS Story Vs Subjective storyline

I don't know how it will work since this is the first time I'll be using Dramatica on a novel. I was getting desperate. Everytime I rewrote I didn't feel like I was on the right track (and a novel that was a finalist in a Lit Award for the Novel... which might not mean anything except that I'm perha...

Re: Mental Sex -- Real Life Example(s)

I'll have to think more on this one. Is it perhaps characters that I might think of Alpha Male vs New Age Male I don't know what the opposite descriptors for women might be... Perhaps something like Nurturing Mother vs Career Female? Not suggesting this as replacements... just trying to get my head ...

Re: OS Story Vs Subjective storyline

The challenge for me is to hold both functional requirements and be inspired to assign storytelling elements. I think this is more relevant to writing a novel (which I'm doing) plus the fact that I write lit fic and that I have an established way of writing. However, I find one of the side effects o...

Re: Mental Sex -- Real Life Example(s)

I find this too broad stroke characteristic. It actually brings up the question of the use of 'intuitive' and logical. Perhaps this is because I've never seen anyone who is intuitive enough (the closest is my alternative health care friends) or logical enough to belong to separate categories (except...

Re: Crucial Element and MC / IC Problem

All that was useful... especially the links -- which then gave me ideas about what to search in the Help section. I know I'm a details person, and in the past, I have built the big picture last. Using Dramatic is my experiment in going the other way but I still tend to work up from the details. I no...

Re: OS Story Vs Subjective storyline

Looks like I have to rethink how I've used the Build Characters window.

From your reply, it doesn't seem like these characteristics have to have a necessary relationship to make a decent Grand Argument.

Crucial Element and MC / IC Problem

I'd like to know more about the parameters I need to consider in assigning the Crucial Elements in the Build Characters window. It took me a while to arrive at my story form (lots of discards even after I was sure and I'd extensively illustrated). (BTW-- where in Dramatica does one find the number o...
