Re: Change MC - Bad
I'm pretty sure I have had one major Dramatica Epiphany today. So the MC changes and is worse off for it (in terms of his personal problems). This means that he should have remained steadfast and not changed, by changing he ends the story with a judgment of bad. So if he goes from Hinder to Help, Hi...

Change MC - Bad
I have a change main character who the software says ends with a judgment of bad. The story is a success. I finally got around to just making up throw away stories with the software in order to get a better handle of it. I started with Fairy Tales as Chris suggests, but have moved on to Spin-The-Mod...

Thanks for the quick responses Chris. It has given me a lot to think about when considering how to present my story.

Re: IC SITUATION
Thinking about it a little more and the questions that arose were: Why does my MC listen to the IC? Why does the MC care what the IC thinks? Why doesn't the MC tell the IC to go have relations with himself (keeping it clean for the message board) rather than following his stupid ideas? All of these ...

Re: IC SITUATION
What about the IC's position in the company. The IC is the big boss and because of that he talks down to the MC, always assumes he is correct (because he is the boss). So in short the reason the MC listens to him, and follows what he says is because he is the boss. Would this be a situation IC? The ...

IC SITUATION
I have an IC of situation with a concern of the future. He is the head of an organization and worries about the future of it and whether or not it will even exist. His fears about the future are what impact the main character in the story. I am just unsure how to encode an IC with a situation throug...

OS GOAL
Does the OS Goal have to reflect how the problem is dealt with or just where the story's problem lies (what the character wish to achieve in the story). For instance, the OS goal is Changing One's Nature. In order to stop the nature of something from changing the protagonist decides to Play a Role. ...

JUDGEMENT
From what I understand the main character judgment of good or bad is determined by whether the main character is in a better place at the end of the story. I believe I have heard Chris say in many podcasts that if the MC is in a better place than the judgment is good and if not then the judgment is ...

Contagonist
I read or heard somewhere that the guardian's role in the story is to portray the author's moral view. Through the guardian more than any other character we see a broad blanket statement of how people should behave in the situation our characters have been placed in. Of course this is done objective...

INCITING INCIDENT
So this is not a question but rather an observation that I want to check the accuracy of. I was watching family guy the other day and after about 5 minutes Peter caught his father-in-law having an affair. This of course was the inciting incident which the story then revolved around. From this I asce...

Re: Be-er vs. Do-er question
I had the same question when I first started. I don,t fully understand why, the logistics behind it, but I have figured out that MC with Manipulation or Fixed Attitude are always be-ers while Activity or Situation characters are do-ers. Since you want him to have closure as his concern it means that...

Re: Order of MC & IC Signposts
As far as I know there is nothing wrong with this as far as the theory goes. There is something about laying out all the signpost 1's before starting into the signpost 2's, but nothing about the order that the 1's have to appear in. From a building mystery point of view, I think it is perfectly acce...

Requirements: Known From the Beginning or Learned Later?
Do the characters of a story have to know what the requirements are to complete the goal? For example let's say that the goal is Playing a Role and the REQUIREMENT is Changing One's Nature. Now the protagonist tries many different things to get people to Play a Role (i.e. he Develops a Plan, Conciev...

Re: Option Lock
And then again, what about adding options to an already pre-set limit. For example in Return of the Jedi, we know that Luke is the only Jedi left and that if he cannot beat Vader and the Emperor then all hope is lost. Then we get this scene where Obi Wan and Yoda are discussing things and they menti...

Option Lock
I seriously doubt this is correct but... If a story involves a protagonist who will never stop trying different things, until he meets the goal would that be an option lock..i.e. the story will only end when he finds the way to succeed? I guess what I am saying is an option lock suggests many option...

Correct Throughlines???
Hello, I took a 6 month break from my novel in order to approach it fresh. I seemed to be stuck in a rut and no matter what I tried it never was what I really wanted to say. Today I opened Dramatica and begin working through the 1st level of the story guide. I think I have finally found what I want ...

Are you really spamming your Blog on my question? Must say I am disappointed to find a new perspective only for it to turn out to be an uninteresting blog. Are there some sort of group rules for this or something?

Re: Real Goal
So in running this over in my head yesterday, I came to the conclusion that the goal is a seperate entity than how the goal is reached. So even if Changing the Nature of the system finally works, if the reason behind it all is playing a role than playing a role is still the goal of the story. Is thi...

Real Goal
I have a story in which playing a role is the goal. They are two political parties and a new third political party threatens to ruin them both by offering people a seemingly better system. The protagonist also the Impacpact Character, who doesn't care if his party's views are better and doesn't want...
